Dr Ivanhoe Leung is an Honorary Academic at the School of Chemical Sciences at the University of Auckland. He works primarily as a Senior Lecturer in Biological Chemistry at the University of Melbourne.

Ivan attained his undergraduate and doctorate degrees in Chemistry at the University of Oxford, as a member of St Peter’s College. His DPhil was completed in the laboratories of Profs Christopher J. Schofield FRS and Timothy D. W. Claridge, where he applied NMR spectroscopy to study enzymes from an extended family of non-haem iron oxygenases that use 2-oxoglutarate as a cosubstrate. After his DPhil he spent a further two years in the same groups as a postdoctoral research assistant. He has also spent time as a visitor in the laboratory of Dr Isabelle Landrieu at the Université Lille 1. Ivan joined the University of Auckland as Lecturer in September 2014. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2017. In 2018, Ivan was made co-Deputy Director of the Centre for Green Chemical Science at the University of Auckland. Ivan was promoted to Senior Lecturer (over the bar) in 2019. In 2021, Ivan joined the School of Chemistry and the Bio21 Molecular Science & Biotechnology Institute at the University of Melbourne. He remains as an Honorary Academic at the School of Chemical Sciences at the University of Auckland.
